birthday baby

Wow...already 28...can't understand how time is flying by so fast. Well now that I'm in "corporate world," it seems like everyday is just a dream that I have to go through. Get up...go to the same cube...it almost feels like office space. But hey...I believe in a big God and I believe that he is getting ready to do something great! Why??? don't know really. I really don't deserve it, but I know in whom I believe!

Anyway...just a short blurb. It's amazing what God can bring you through in just 28 short years. Man...I am feeling very philosophical today...wow.

New Direction

Alright...I haven't posted in a while, but I have been doing a lot of research. I am starting a new series on this blog. I know everybody has an opinion about the current issues and what is facing our country at the moment. Well, here comes mine...I think that our current situation in this country has everyone freaking out about oil prices. All you hear is "the price of gas"..."the price of oil"..."what can we do to produce more"..."where are all of our reserves". Well in my opinion, (which counts for absolutely nothing) we are focusing on the wrong issue. We are worried about how to make more, but forgetting that we need to reduce what we are using now. Do you know that in 2007 the U.S. accounted for 24% of the total worlds oil consumption per day at almost 21 million barrels per day. (B.P. statistical review of World Energy) While only producing 8% of the world's oil. (same source) I'm not saying that if we reduce our consumption it would have an affect on gas prices very much, but I am saying that we would be able to cope better with rising prices if we didn't use as much!

There is also a theory about the world peak in oil production. If you watch the news shows at all, you will see the commentators making comments about "Peak Oil". This theory is basically that we have to take into consideration that our oil resources are finite. Their is only a certain amount, and their will be a peak in production and will only go down from that peak. A swedish researcher predicts that that peak will be somewhere between now and 2018. (fox news) There will be a lot more posts about this topic in the future!!!

Research has also showed me that all of the alternatives for oil production will only be band-aids for the really big problem that we have in america!!! e.g Oil Shale in Montana, the Alakskan National Wildlife Reserve (from now on ANWR), the Bakken Formation. Those facts will come in later posts. OOOO teaser..

but for now...to be continued...

sweet home Chicago

Ok gang...just got back from chicago and the trip was amazing. I went up there for 8 days for a BICSI class. If you have time look it up. The class was brutal. We had class everyday from 7:30 to at least 5:00. After the class we would normally go downtown and hangout or something of that nature. I went to a Cubs game on Monday. I got to see one of the most beautiful baseball parks in the country! I got to meet some fantastic people in Chicago...Mike and Aaron...these guys were great! Hopefully I can keep communication lines open with these guys because it would be really cool to keep in touch with them.

Anyway just wanted to drop a short update to let you guys know how things were going. I have to try better to keep this thing updated. Anyway...take care and here is your quote for the day.

A Challenge

Last night in Monday Night Fire, Steven did a teaching session out of Luke. He talked a lot about discipleship and following. He gave us a challenge last night that I would like to pose here. Do you want to be a follower of Christ, or do you want to be a disciple. A follower of Christ will be there when the going is good and is only there when miracles and things are happening.

You see, Jesus had many that followed him in the multitude, but he was concerned more about what it meant to be a disciple of Christ. He said that a person has to "hate" self to be able to be a disciple of Christ. We have to love our relationship with Jesus more than we love our self, family, or friends.

In the book of John we also see that Jesus had a great multitude that was following him. Jesus turned to them and told them that unless they ate his flesh and drank his blood that they were not worthy to be disciples. After he told them this, many of them turned and walked away! Are you willing to accept what Jesus did for you in every aspect of your life?. Are you willing to totally sell out and put everything in Jesus' hands?

Just being honest...when I truly sat down and looked at where I was in my Christian walk...I know that I am not where I want to be. I know that a lot of times I tend to be more of a follower than a disciple, but I want that to change. I want more of Christ. I want to be able to use the gift that God gave me to glorify Christ. I want to be able to do what God has called me to do. There is nothing more fulfilling than being able to stand in your calling and do what God has called you to do!

Well, hopefully this will spark some serious soul searching...I know it did for me.

if you wanna fight, you got it...

"With him [is] an arm of flesh; but with us [is] the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah." 2 Chronicles 32: 8

Over the last few days it feels like I have had about 10,000 lbs of pressure on my shoulders. I don't know why, but it seems like everything is coming at me at once! I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that ole' horny head is at it again, trying to ruin something good that is about to happen. You see, I have to think about things on a spiritual level sometimes, and if this much is going wrong, then I know that something great is fixing to come on the back end. Well, if the devil wants a fight, he's got one. But the great thing is...I have an advantage in the fight. It's not me fighting...it's Jesus Christ! And he has already won the battle at Calvary! Therefore the devil is already defeated...he has no choice in the matter!

You know, I think God allows the winepress to squeeze a little tight sometimes to see how we are going to react. Are we as believers, going to allow the Lord to fight our battles for us, or let the flesh rise up and try to take care of the situation by ourselves? The nation of Israel was a perfect example of this. Every time that they went into battle with the Lord on their side they won, but if the Lord wasn't in it, they were miserably defeated! So today if you are struggling with something or just feeling like you don't know how you're going to make it to tomorrow...Remember that the lord fights your battles, AND HE HAS ALREADY WON!!!!!

So Tired...

Isn't it awesome to know that no matter how tired my physical body is, I still have a reason to be thankful and praise the lord! I woke up this morning and my body was tired, my mind was tired, but my spirit was jumping for joy! Last night's service was amazing and this campmeeting is going to be a much needed refreshing.

You know, a wise man once told me, "Just show up, and let God handle the Great part!" I think this is so true because, you can try and try to make God show up and move, but when you just show up expecting, that is when God truly moves and touches people.

This morning, if your body is tired, your mind is tired...take this simple piece of advice...just show up and let God handle the great part.

I wonder if it's getting close to campmeeting?

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed." (1 Peter 4: 12,13)

Man, you can always tell when it is getting close to a great move of God. Campmeeting is coming up only a week from today, and the tests and trials are coming at me one after the other. It seems like whether it be youth camp, or campmeeting, it always gets really rough right before. I think that the lord allows this to happen to have basically, for lack of a better term, a boot camp for our faith. I believe that the Lord does this to strengthen us and prepare us for a great move of God. The verse that is above lets us know that we shouldn't be surprised when we encounter trials, because even though we share in Christ's sufferings, that one glorious day we shall also share when his glory is revealed!!

Sometimes comparisons help me understand things a little better. I like to compare these tests of faith to hitting in baseball. When a hitter is down in the count and has two strikes on him/her, the correct thing to do, in my opinion, is to choke up on the bat and just try to make contact. When the tests of faith come, we don't need to try to "hit a homerun"... all we need to remember is in whom we have believed! All we have to do in "anchor" down our faith to Jesus and what he did for us! Grab hold to Jesus and don't be shaken, and no matter what "pitch is thrown" You will hit a homerun!!!

By This Time Tomorrow

Wow! I think that is the only word that can describe service yesterday and last night. Yesterday, my wife and I had went to her cousin's 2nd birthday party in Maurepas. On the way back we stopped and visited my mother and checked out the new additions to her house. Man, it is so nice out on the river!

After we left mom's house, we tuned in to 88.5 Sonlife Radio. We started listening to the service at 6:00. The music was great and there were a couple of tongue's and interpretations. After all that Bro. Larson got up and started preaching out of 2 Kings 7:1. The title of his message was "By This Time Tomorrow." It was about how Elisha prophesied to the nation of Israel that, by this time tomorrow, the siege of the Arameans would be gone and everything would be back to normal. I think what I got the most out of the message was the fact that in 24 hours God can change someone's situation completely around. No matter how bad it looks, no matter how bad your back is against the wall, no matter how low you think you are...by this time tomorrow God can change your situation around! I believe this is pertinent to ministry as well as our personal struggles! BY THIS TIME TOMORROW! When you think about it, it really sinks into your spirit! I went to sleep just excited last night, just to know that if God makes a promise in his word, he always follows through on it. And he promised to the nation of Israel that by this time tomorrow the siege would be over. He promised that the food would sell in the marketplace again! And he did it! I said he did it! What has God promised you lately? What has he told you that he was going to do in your life? Guess What...when God makes you a promise, you can bank on it that he is going to come through on it! My wife and I listened all the way back to Baton Rouge and when we got to Baton Rouge, I was heading home and my wife asked me, "Where are we going? We need to go to church!" And when we walked in, it like the spirit of God just slapped me in the face and said "LISTEN UP!" The more he preached on it, the more it just sunk down in my spirit. I was excited to believe for great things. I want to believe for the impossible things. For the ministry, and for my personal desires. I am extremely anxious to see what God is going to do in my life and what he intends to do for the ministry. I just resting and believing!

Don't forget that tonight is Monday night, and you know what happens on Monday night...Monday Night Fire. I know that the Lord is going to move in a mighty way just as he does every week!

What do ya know? He showed up again.

"And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces." Leviticus 9:24

Last night in Monday Night Fire I truly experienced the moving of the Holy Spirit.. The fire of the Holy Spirit truly consumed that room last night. We had a guest speaker last night and he said some of the most inspiring things that I've heard yet. He taught from Romans 8:32. The main idea that I got out of the teaching was that we can count on God's blessings, because if he did not even spare his own son for us, why would he not give us all things that Jesus' death has bought for us. You know, I was thinking a lot about their story and about them going to Belize, and I know that if that couple can keep their faith like it is now, there is no problem or struggle that will ever hinder them in doing what God has called them to do. I pray that God will bless them abundantly and to enlarge their territory for Christ and for his glory! The music was so wonderful last night that I did not want to leave the room. It was just so refreshing to put everything else in my life away and just concentrate on the Lord.

On a lighter side, I also learned a valuable lesson last night at Fry Queen. Ya see, I am all about learning from other people's mistakes. And last night, I learned that a person can get brain freeze from eating ice cream really fast because you want a free refill! (love ya tivo).

HyperReligious

I wonder what goes through some people's heads that are so hyper-religious. I know that Christians are in the world, but not of the world. But holy cow, I don't think that there is a more gray and finer line in existence. How do you know that you are doing something that is not pleasing to God? How do you show people that a person can be a Christian and live a normal life? What is considered a normal life? Wow, I'm in a rhetorical question mood today! I'm rambling...oh well I think that is what this is all about anyway...just rambling. If anybody does ever read this...I'm not feeling very spiritual today. But isn't it great to know that even if I'm not feeling very spiritual, I still know in whom I have believed. Maybe I got on my soapbox for a little while about religiousity (thanks chad), but I just can't stand when people "play" Christianity. When someone gets religious with me, I always remind them who Jesus hung out with....check it out for yourself. Anyway, I'm pretty scatter brained because it's Friday, so I'll keep it short. Take Care.

Thursday, O' Thursday

For some reason, I think Thursdays always go by slow for me. Wednesday is awesome because we have Crossfire to look forward to, and Friday is awesome because the weekend is the next day. Thursday is just stuck there in the middle just chillin! I guess there is something good about Thursday, we have the Campus Ministry meeting today. Just for a little side note of advertisement, If you are in the Baton Rouge area, you need to come and check out what God is doing at Crossfire Youth Ministries. We had an unbelievable service last night! The spirit of God is so heavy at times that you just feel wrapped in his presence, and their is nothing better than to be wrapped up in the presence of God! The music was awesome, the preaching was awesome, and the altar call was awesome! Come check it out, we'd love to see you!

Going back to Campus Ministry, I just want to be real for a minute. I know that the lord has done many wonderful things for me in my life, but actually stopping someone to talk to them about Jesus just absolutely scares me! I guess I shouldn't feel that way, but if I'm being real, that is how I feel. I just pray that the Lord would give me the strength and the boldness to be able to do it. I don't think it's telling people about Jesus that scares me, I think it's more just stopping a stranger out of the blue. I guess I just need to make sure that I have the guidance of the Holy Spirit whenever I go out, so God lets me know the right people to stop. I would challenge any readers, that if you are saved, to pray that the lord give you the courage and boldness to be able to tell a stranger what God has done for you.

On a different note...I will usually try to stay out of the politics avenue, but someone sent this video to me and I just have to share it.

://edition.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/08/08/gingrich/indexhtml#cnnSTCVideo

This is Newt Gingrich that is speaking in the video. He used to be the speaker of the House in Washington. He has a lot of very interesting things to say here in this video. Check it out if you get the time. It has a lot to do with the Muslim problem that Americans are facing at the moment.

Well, thanks for stopping by, and here is a pretty good quote from the English Economist and Novelist, Harriet Martineau (1802-1876).

"You better live your best and act your best and think your best today, for today is the sure preparation for tomorrow and all the other tomorrows that follow."

Welcome to the digital age...

So here we go...I've never tried the whole blogging thing, so I thought that I would give it a try. Why not, I mean, I guess it's time to join the 21st century!
I thought it would probably be a good thing to give a little background of where I am coming from to give you readers a chance to get familiar with me.
I am from Gonzales, LA. G-town! yeah baby! Oh, and just as a side note, I love Gonzales. I never thought I would say this, but I really wish that I was back living there.
Anyway...focus...I am 27 years old and my life right now probably couldn't be better.

First of all, I have a RELATIONSHIP with a loving and caring savior! His name is Jesus. I don't think that I have ever been more happy to believe in something than I am right now. Just to know that I don't have to struggle with religion and trying to make something of myself. Instead, just trying to be more like Jesus. Just like we say in MNF (monday night fire), it's all about Jesus!

Second, I am married to the most wonderful and beautiful woman on the face of the earth. We have been married now for over one year, and it is getting nothing but better. I appreciate everything she does for me. I really think that Jesus had, and has, his hand in our relationship.

2A. I have probably one of the greatest families anyone could ever ask for. I had probably the best father ever. Love ya' Dad! I still think that the lord needed a good Baseball coach up in heaven. I really miss him. I also have the best mom on the face of the earth! Oh and by the way she is probably the best dancer in the world! And she also makes the best goulash! My brother and his wife are the coolest people to have as brother and sister-in-law. And their children really have my heart. Love ya' P & P!

Third, I have probably one of the greatest jobs EVER! I am an ITS-NI Analyst at Louisiana State University. Geaux Tigers!!!

Another thing I have to be thankful of is the fact that the lord is allowing me to use a gift he gave me to glorify him. I am presently playing music on Monday nights as well as Wednesday nights for the youth of Family Worship Center. I am so blessed to be able to do this! I love the feeling that you get when you just know, that you know, that you know, that you are supposed to be doing what you are doing. I feel that way when I am playing music, there is a peace that surpasses all understanding that just comes over you.

Anyway, enough rambling about me. Thanks for coming by and visiting my blog. Keep coming by because I am going to try to keep it updated pretty often. At the end of every blog I will try to end with a quote from someone, hopefully to inspire.

"It is marvelous how one sweet word of God will make whole songs for Christians." Charles Spurgeon
